I think she's onto something...

My second oldest, Keely, came home from school to tell me what she was giving up for Lent:
1. Apples - her favorite fruit
2. Nick TV - that means Nickelodeon, Nick Jr, Nicktoons, everything.

She then told me what she was going to DO for Lent: strive to make new friends. I think she is onto something here. Not only does she realize the importance of giving something up to better understand sacrifice and perhaps to better understand what Jesus did for all, but she also sees Lent as an opportunity to reach out to others. To learn more about others. To extend a hand of friendship. Not too shabby for a 7-year old, I think.

Now, Abby, on the other hand, told me, with the most carefree grin, "Mom, I'm giving up homework."

Hmmm, I may have to work on her.
